Wa weather ballon contains 14.0L of helium at a pressure of .89 atm and a temperature of 12.0 Celsius. If the helium had been stored in a 1.5 L cylinder at 21.0 Celsius, what must the pressure in the cylinder have been?

In order to answer this question we can use Combined Gas Law formula, which is:

P1*V1/T1 = P2*V2/T2

where:

P1 and P2 = pressures in situations 1 and 2

V1 and V2 = volumes in situations 1 and 2, when dealing with gases, we usually use Kelvin

T1 and T2 = temperatures in situations 1 and 2

0.89 atm * 14.0 L/285K = P2 * 1.5 L/294K

12.46/285 = 1.5P2/294

0.043 = 1.5P2/294

12.64 = 1.5P2

P2 = 8.42 atm
