How do I know which one is top/bottom and left/right on the area between curves?

According to the differential element that you provide

For example, in the first figure, if we choose a vertical element, we will compare the values of y so, the upper will be greater than the value that in the bottom

So, the upper is the line (2x) and the lower is the quadratic function
