3) A map of a rectangular park has a length of 4 inches and a width of 6 inches. It uses a scale of 1 inch for every 30 miles. What is the actual area of the park? Show how you know. (From Unit 1, Lesson 12)

Length of the park, l=4 inches

Width of the park, w=6 inches.

Here, 1 inch is equal to the 30 miles.

To find the actual area of the park:

Area of the park is, A=lw

That is,


\begin{gathered} A=4*6 \\ =24\text{ inches} \end{gathered}

In miles,


\begin{gathered} A=24*30 \\ =720\text{ miles} \end{gathered}

Hence, the area of the park in miles is 720 miles.
