To find a number is how many times greater than another number divide the two numbers

Let us divide 1.40 * 10^6 by 1.43 * 10^5

(1.40*10^6)/(1.43*10^5)=(1.40)/(1.43)*10^(6-5)

We will start by subtraction the powers of 10 as the rule dividing same bases subtracting their powers

(1.40)/(1.43)*10=(140)/(143)*10

Because the number of decimals up equal the number of decimals down we can cancel them together

(140)/(143)*10=(1400)/(143)

Now let us find the answer of division

(1400)/(143)=9.79020979

That means the diameter of the sun is 9.79 times the diameter of the jupiter
