We are to solve

`x^(2.8)=31`

This can be simplified to

`\begin{gathered} x^{(28)/(10)}=31 \\ x^{(14)/(5)}=31 \end{gathered}`

Raising both sides of the equation to a power of 5 we have

`\begin{gathered} x^{(14)/(5)*5}=31^5 \\ x^(14)=31^5 \\ x^(14)=28629151 \end{gathered}`

By raising both sides of the equation to power of 1/14, we get

`\begin{gathered} x^{14*(1)/(14)}=28629151^{(1)/(14)} \\ x=\sqrt[14]{28629151} \end{gathered}`

Simplifying this we get

`x=3.40901`
