Question 8

We are to solve

x^(2.8)=31

This can be simplified to

\begin{gathered} x^{(28)/(10)}=31 \\ x^{(14)/(5)}=31 \end{gathered}

Raising both sides of the equation to a power of 5 we have

\begin{gathered} x^{(14)/(5)*5}=31^5 \\ x^(14)=31^5 \\ x^(14)=28629151 \end{gathered}

By raising both sides of the equation to power of 1/14, we get

\begin{gathered} x^{14*(1)/(14)}=28629151^{(1)/(14)} \\ x=\sqrt[14]{28629151} \end{gathered}

Simplifying this we get

x=3.40901
