14 cans of soup

1) Gathering the data

Price of sale: $ 2.25

Coupon: $3

No more than $30 (≤30)

2) We can write out the following inequality, considering all that data:

2.25x-3\leq30

Note that the coupon offers her a discount of $3. So now, we can solve that:

\begin{gathered} 2.25x-3\leq30 \\ 2.25x-3+3\leq30+3 \\ 2.25x\leq33 \\ (2.25x)/(2.25)\leq(33)/(2.25) \\ x\leq14.67 \end{gathered}

Note that, there is not a 14.6 can so let's round it off to the nearest lower whole number and check it:

\begin{gathered} 2.25(14)-3\leq30 \\ 31.5-3\leq30 \\ 28.5\leq30True \end{gathered}

3) Hence, the answer is 14 cans of soup
