Let the number of boxes of felt tip pens be x.

So, the number of boxes of ballpoint pens be 3x.

It is given that,

Ballpoint pens cost $4.37 per box.

Felt tip pens cost $3.41 per box.

The man’s order of pens totaled is $82.60.

First, to find x:

The man’s order of pens totaled cost = (Number of boxes of felt tip pens * cost of felt tip pens per box) + (Number of boxes of ballpoint pens * cost of Ballpoint pens per box)

Therefore,

\begin{gathered} 82.60=(x)(3.41)+(3x)_{}(4.37) \\ 82.60=3.41x+13.11x \\ 82.60=16.52x \\ x=(82.60)/(16.52) \\ x=5 \end{gathered}

Hence,

The number of boxes of felt tip pens be $5.

The number of boxes of ballpoint pens be,

3*5=15

The number of boxes of ballpoint pens be, $15.

Thus,

The number of boxes of felt tip pens be $5.

The number of boxes of ballpoint pens be,
