When two objects are similar then the area scale factor is given by


\frac{\text{ scaled figure}}{\text{original figure}}=3^2=9

So, we have


\text{ original figure =}\frac{\text{ scaled figure}}{\text{9}}

By substituting the given values, we have


\text{ original figure =}\frac{\text{ 7}2}{\text{9}}

Therefore, the surface area of the original figure is 8 square units
