In order to stay hydrated while in the desert I need to drink 3/4 gallons of water every mile. If I plan to walk 4 1/2 miles, how many gallons of water do I need to bring with me?

To find the answer of this problem, use the rate and the miles that are going to be walked to find how many gallons of water must be brought.

First, convert the mixed number to a fraction.

4(1)/(2)=4+(1)/(2)=(9)/(2)

Use this distance and the rate 3/4gal per mile to find the answer:

(9)/(2)miles\cdot((3)/(4)gal)/(1mile)=(27)/(8)gal

You need to bring 27/8 gallons of water with you.
