In order to calculate the distance d between two points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), we can use the formula below:

d=√((y_2-y_1)^2+(x_2-x_1)^2)

So, using the points (1, 0) and (-10, -8), we have:

\begin{gathered} d=√((-8-0)^2+(-10-1)^2)\\ \\ d=√(64+121)\\ \\ d=√(185)\\ \\ d=13.6\text{ units} \end{gathered}

Therefore the distance between the points is 13.6 units.
