y=mx+b

Find out the slope m

we have the points (-6,5) and (2,1)


m=(1-5)/(2+6)=-(4)/(8)=-(1)/(2)

step 2

Find out the equation of the line

we have

m=-1/2

point (2,1)

substitute and solve for b


\begin{gathered} 1=-(1)/(2)(2)+b \\ \\ 1=-1+b \\ b=2 \end{gathered}

therefore

The equation of the line is


y=-(1)/(2)x+2
