$\begin{gathered} x=2+i \\ so\colon \\ (2+i)^2-6(2+i)+9 \end{gathered}$
3+4i-12-6i+9

add like terms:

$\begin{gathered} (3+9-12)+(4i-6i) \\ 0-2i \\ -2i \end{gathered}$
