Deb is searching online for airline tickets. Two weeks ago, the cost to fly from Hartford to Denverwas $250. Now the cost is $360. What is the percent increase? What would be the percentincrease if the airline charges an additional $50 baggage fee with the new ticket price?

a) If the cost of the ticket is $360 now, we can take as the 100% the $250 from two weeks ago to get the following:

\begin{gathered} \%\text{ increase=}(360)/(250)\cdot100=144 \\ \end{gathered}

therefore, the percent increase is the difference between 100 and 144, then, we have that in this case, the percent increase is 44%

b)If the airline also charges a $50 fee, then the new total is:

360+50=410

then, the percent increase is the following:

\%\text{ increase = }(410)/(250)\cdot100=164

therefore, the percent increase is 164 - 100 = 64%
