What is the slope-intercept of (-4,-5) and slope is 1/2

We are given a set of coordinates which are;


(-4,-5)

And the slope which is;


(1)/(2)

The equation of a line in slope-intercept form is;


y=mx+b

Note that in this equation, the variable m is the slope (that is, the coefficient of x). we can now substitute for x, y and m into the equation above and we'll have;


\begin{gathered} y=mx+b \\ \text{Where,} \\ x=-4,y=-5,m=(1)/(2) \\ -5=(1)/(2)(-4)+b \\ -5=-2+b \\ \text{Add 2 to both sides of the equation;} \\ -3=b \end{gathered}

We now have the values of the slope and the y-intercept as


m=(1)/(2),b=-3

The equation now can be written as;


\begin{gathered} y=(1)/(2)x+(-3) \\ y=(1)/(2)x-3 \end{gathered}

ANSWER:


\begin{gathered} m=(1)/(2) \\ b=-3 \\ \text{Equation;} \\ y=(1)/(2)x-3 \end{gathered}
