We have the following information:'

\begin{gathered} \mu=40 \\ \sigma=4 \\ x=44 \end{gathered}

We want to calculate the following probability:

P(X>44)

then, using the information that we are given, we havE:

P(X>44)=P(X-\mu>44-40)=P((X-\mu)/(\sigma)>(44-40)/(4))=P((X-\mu)/(\sigma)>1)

since:

Z=(X-\mu)/(\sigma)

we have the following:

P(X>44)=P(Z>1)=0.1587

therefore, the probability of selecting a score greater than 44 is 15.87%
