Since each smaller line counts as 1/5, you can simply start from the point 1 and count 3 times to reach D.


3*(1)/(5) =(3)/(5)

Since you started at 1, you can add
1+(3)/(5) =1(3)/(5)

We can subtract/ignore 3 from all of them to make things simpler.

Now, we need to find the lowest value to greatest from:


(5)/(8), (7)/(16) ,(1)/(2)

In order to compare these, we make the denominators the same (in this case: 16)


(5)/(8) =(5*2)/(8*2) =(10)/(16)


(7)/(16) =(7)/(16)


(1)/(2) =(1*8)/(2*8) =(8)/(16)
