We are given a rectangle with the following dimensions;

\begin{gathered} l=(x+3) \\ w=(x+1) \end{gathered}

Also, placed inside the large rectangle, is a smaller shaded rectangle which has the dimensions;

\begin{gathered} l=(x+1) \\ w=x \end{gathered}

The ratio of both figures can be expressed as follows;

\text{Ratio}=a\colon b=(a)/(b)

Substituting for the values of both figures, we now have;

undefined
