Solution

We are given the quadratic equation

x^2-6x=16

We want to solve by using the quadratic formula method

Note: Given a quadratic equation

ax^2+bx+c=0

The formula method is given

x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt[]{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

From

\begin{gathered} x^2-6x=16 \\ x^2-6x-16=0 \\ \text{Comparing with the general form of a quadratic equation} \\ a=1 \\ b=-6 \\ c=-16 \end{gathered}

Substituting the parameters intot the quadratic formula

and

Therefore,

x=8,-2
