The simplest ratio of squares to rectangles can be obtained as follows:

There are 14 squares and 18 rectangles. The ratio of squares to rectangles is:

(14)/(18)=(7)/(9)

Then, the simplest ratio is 7/9 because 7 is a prime number and the ratio cannot be simplified any more. To obtain 7/9 we divided the numerator by 2 and the denominator also by 2.
