The slope of a line is -1/5, and the y-intercept is 5. What is the equation of the line written in general form?

x - 5y - 25 = 0
x - 5y - 5 = 0
x + 5y - 25 = 0 i went help from jcornett6858 can i have your help

Answer:

x + 5y - 25 = 0 (in slope-intercept form:

y = -1/5 + 5)

Explanation:

By General form they mean standard form which is Ax + By = C.

Right now, none of these are in standard form, and in order to get each in standard form, you're going to have to move the term without the variable and combine it with the 0.

1) Add 25 in order to move it to the otherside, now you have x - 5y = 25.

2) Add 5 in order to move it to the otherside, now you have x - 5y = 5.

3) Add 25 in order to move it to the otherside, now you have x + 5y = 25.

But wait we're not done. Now we have to tern them each into slope-intercept form (y=mx+b):

1) x - 5y = 25

Subtract x on both sides to get -5y = -x + 25, then divide both sides by -5 to get y = 1/5 x - 5.

2) x - 5y = 5

Subtract x on both sides to get -5y = -x + 5, then divide both sides by -5 to get y = 1/5 x - 1.

3) x + 5y = 25

Subtract x on both sides to get 5y = -x + 25, then divide both sides by 5 to get y = -1/5 + 5.

(The final equations are in bold.)

So the third option woukd be your answer, because the slope is -1/5 and the y-intercept is 5.

Hope this helps :)
