The pressure on a confined gas started out at 258 mmHg, at which point the temperature of the gas was 22.0ºC. If the pressure were to be changed to 315 mmHg, what would the celsius temperature be then?

Answer:

The temperature would be 87.21 degrees Celsius (4s.f)

Explanation:

P1 = 258mmHg

T1 = 22.0 degrees Celsius

= 295.15 K

P2 = 315mmHg

Since mmHg is directly proportional to pa, no conversion is required in this case, as they would cancel.

T2 = ?

P1/T1 = P2/T2

T2 = P2T1/P1

= 315(295.15)/258

= 360.36 K

= 87.21 degrees Celsius (4s.f)
