The slope of the line that passes through points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is computed as follows:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

Replacing with the points (-8, 3) and (0,1) we get:

m=\frac{1-3}{0-_{}(-8)}=(-2)/(8)=-(1)/(4)
