The given triangle is a right angle triangle,

Apply the trignometry ratio of tan

\tan \emptyset=(Perpendicular)/(Base)

From the given figure we have,

Perpendicular=x and base=72 and angle =40 degree

\begin{gathered} \tan 40^(\circ)=(x)/(72) \\ 0.839=(x)/(72) \\ x=0.839*72 \\ x=60.408 \\ x=60.41 \end{gathered}

So the value of x is 60.41
