How was Reconstruction a success in South Carolina with regards to educational opportunities for African Americans? African American students were guaranteed admission to trade schools within South Carolina. For the first time, African Americans had the chance to go to school in South Carolina. African Americans in South Carolina were granted free college tuition as compensation for slavery. South Carolina schools were fully integrated for African American and white students.​
