It means exploiting the resources the conquered country for the benefit of the conqueror. Imperialism means creating an empire, expanding into the neighbouring regions and expanding its dominance far. Colonialism is termed as building and maintaining colonies in one territory by people from another territory.

Imperialism is a policy to extend a nation's influence toward another nation, and colonialism is an act to politically control another country so they can exploit its economy. So we can conclude that in order to achieve imperialism goals, colonialism is needed to be done by that imperialist nation.
