When we want to find the slope of a line, we divide its increase on the
y-axis by its increase on the
x-axis. In other words, we look at its
tan(a). As you can see in the photo, I chose two points that exactly intersect the axes and connected them in a right triangle. I then divided the increase in the
y-axis (
3) by the increase in the
x-axis (
4). Since the line slopes to the right, its sign will be positive. Also, this line intersects the
y-axis
(x=0) at
1.
