#1 = y = 3x -5

#2 = y = -12x + 2

Step by step

For #1, I’m using the two points
(1, -2) and (3, 4) to find slope

y2 - y1 over x2 - x1
4- -2 over 3 -1
6 over 2 = 6/2 or slope (m) of 3

Now we find the equation
Using points (3, 4)

y - y1 = m (x - x1)

y -4 = 3(x - 3)

y -4 = 3x -9

Add 4 to each side to solve for y

y - 4 + 4 = 3x - 9 + 4

y = 3x -5

For # 2 I’m using the two points
(1/8, 1/2) and (0, 2) to find slope (m)

y2 - y1 over x2 - x1

2 - 1/2 over 0 - 1/8

1 1/2 over -1/8

To simplify we divide 1 1/2 by -1/8

When we divide fractions we flip the divisor and multiply

3/2 * -8/1 = -12 slope (m)

Now we find the equation
Using points (0, 2)

y - y1 = m (x - x1)

y - 2 = -12(x - 0)

y -2 = -12x

Add 2 to both sides to solve for
y -2 +2 = -12x + 2

y = -12x + 2
