Jamestown - Was located near chesapeake bay, and since it is further south it would have pretty hot summers and cold winters. Gentlemen came here for the purpose of finding gold, and this was lead by John Smith. The "starving time" was where about 3/4 of the Virginia colony died of starvation.
Plymouth - Was located near the Cape and had very cold winters. The people who went there were mostly Separatists who took apart from the British restrictions of religion and longed for religious freedom. This colony was lead by William Bradford who wrote the Mayflower Compact.
Massachusetts Bay - Was located in New England, and was cold and windy. These settlers were Puritans whose main goal was to purify the Church of England. They were lead by John Winthrop, and the colony created an amazing educational system which some parts still thrive on today.
