Directions: Read the sentences below and rewrite the without the emboldened words to make a

better sentence. Don't just remove the word, find a way to say the same thing using strong language.
Synonyms are your friend. Sometimes "very" and "really' might be adjectives, but they should still
be removed because there is always stronger diction at our disposal. Feel free to change more than
one word in each sentence, as long as you're expressing the same meaning, you are doing well.

1) I bolted to my sister's house after discovering her cat was in a dire situation that required assistance.

2) The canine whispered in my ear, much to my surprise, but then I woke up to realize it was all a dream.

3) I expressed exuberantly that I was ecstatic for my friend's accomplishment.

4) I crept up to the window, in attempt to catch an idea of their plan.

5) The weather outside is positively scorching.

6) A number of people, I have discovered, are very cruel, and I should steer clear of their negativity.
