James and Sarah went out to lunch. The price of lunch for both of them was $80. They tipped their server 20% of that amount.   How much did each person pay if they shared the price of lunch and the tip equally?   Each person paid $​

Answer:

total tipped = 20% × $80

= $16

total lunch price = $80 - $16

= $64

amount each person pay for tipped

= $16 ÷ 2

= $8

amount each person pay for lunch

= $64 ÷ 2

= $32

total each person pay for lunch and tipped

= $8 + $32

= $40
