What is the equation of the linear model shown? (Hint: Pick two points closest to

the line and complete it by hand. No need to use the calculator.)
Y= 0.8x +4
Y= 1.25x -0.5
Y=0.8x + 0.4
Y=-0.8x+20

Y=0.8x+4

We can visually see that the linear model will cross the Y-Axis at around 4-5. This is the y intercept, or the “b” part of the equation in y=mx+b that all linear models follow.

To check, we can simply input or approximate one of the values from the x axis. If we take 10, and input it into the linear model shown above, we get a value of 12, which is very close to what we see on the graph.

Additionally, the other y intercepts for the other choices are nowhere near our estimated y intercept, and so they can be crossed off by process of elimination.
