Howard has a garden in the shape of a rectangle.

The length is 5.4 meters.
The width is 1.5 meters.

Howard will increase both the length and the width by 20% each.

Part A: What will be the perimeter, in meters, of the enlarged garden?

Part B: By how many square meters will the area of the garden increase?

Explanation:

The actual length of 5.4 is increased by 20%.

- (20/100) × 5.4

- 0.2 × 5.4

- 1.08

Part A- 5.4 + 1.08 = 6.48 meters.

The actual width of 1.5 is increased by 20%.

- (20/100) × 1.5

- 0.2 × 1.5

- 0.3

Part B- 1.5 + 0.3 = 1.8 meters

The perimeter of the enlarged rectangle is seen by replacing the enlarged values of length and width in the perimeter formula.

( 2 (length + width) )

- 2 (6.48 + 1.8)

- 2 × 8.28

- 16.56 meters.
