The Abbasid Caliphate was known to be one of the most influential and powerful Islamic empires in the history of the world. This was, until numerous challenges led to its collapse:
1. Decentralization
As time passed, smaller powers gained autonomy, and the central caliph lost control of the empire.
2. Financial Disarray
As a result of the mishandling of state funds as well as excess taxation, the empire dismally declined. Because the Caliphate also participated in so many wars, they began to lose funds from their treasury system to repair the damages.
3. Political Instability
The downfall of the empire was majorly signified by the constant political unrest. As corruption took over the government, many invasions occurred; as a result, they also lost access to much of the trade routes formerly used and controlled.
Through primarily internal conflict and pressures from outside forces, the Abbasid Caliphate came to a downfall it could never recover from. As this empire fragmented and fell, regional powers rose and Mongol groups conquered.
