Explanation:

π + √40 = 9.46614797.. using a scientific calculator

To the nearest hundredth just take the first 2 decimal places and check the third decimal place. If third decimal digit is 5 or more, increase second decimal digit by 1 else retain the second decimal digit as-is.

We have the result as 9.4661...

Second decimal digit is 6
Third decimal digit is 6 and >= 5 so increase second decimal digit to 7 to get 9.47 as the result
