I need an explanation on how to work this out

Evaluate the expression rs + 14s when r = 6 and s = 1/4.

We have to substitute r and s with the values given:

Now we can make an equation with our new values:

(6×1/4)+(14×1/4)

Now we do one bracket at a time (I put brackets to show that you need to do them separately, you don't need to have brackets)

1.5+3.5=5
