50 POINTS!

A line goes through the points (3, -4) and (-1, 8). Write the equation of the line in point-slope form. Show your work for full credit. (Show the steps for how you went from the two points, above, to having the equation in point-slope form. All calculations must be written down.)

can someone show how they do this instead of just only giving the answer.

Answer:

y= -3x + 5

Explanation:

m= (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m= [8-(-4)]/(-1-3)

m=12/-4

= -3

y= mx + b

-4=(-3)(3) + b

-4=9+b

b=5

therefore, y= -3x+5
