let amount of nickels = y

then amount of quarters = 12-y

let amount of dimes = 2y

according to given condition,

Total amount = y+12-y+2y

we will +y and -y because of different signs,(+,- = -).

10.60 = 12+2y

12-10.60 = 2y

2.60=2y

using / as division sign,

y=2.60/2

y = 1.30

amount of quarters = 1.30

amount of nickels = 12-y

= 12-1.30

= 10.70

amount of dimes = 2y

=2(1.30)

=2.60
