⇒First step is to find the gradient

m=(y_(2) -y_(1) )/(x_(2)-x_(1) ) \\m=(8-(-3))/(-5-2) \\m=(8+3)/(-7) \\m=-(11)/(7)

In the general equation y=mx+c let us find the value of c by plugging in the known values

I will use the point (-5,8) Note you can use any .You will get the same value of c.

8=-(11)/(7) (-5)+c\\8=(55)/(7) +c\\c=8-(55)/(7) \\c=(1)/(7)

The equation now is:

y=-(11)/(7) x+(1)/(7)
