The Articles of Confederation's state votes was replaced by a two-house system, in which one house (the Senate) allowed for 2 votes for each state (which benefited smaller states), and the other house (the House of Representative), which gave votes per state based on the population the state had. Currently, the maximum amount of representatives is 435 in total for the House of Representatives, while the maximum amount of senators is 100 in total for the Senate (+1, which is the Vice President's vote in case of a tie).
