This is what some of the first humans used to draw their stories on the walls of caves, before literature had come into existence. The primitive drawings included depictions of battle, stories of love, or marked notes regarding the things they had encountered during their life.
The interesting part is how we still use figurative art today. While we have evolved for millions of years, our modern depictions really aren’t that different. Shapes and colors still have meaning, just as they did back then. It may not be the same method but it has had the same meaning for a long time.
