Does anyone know how to subtract two whole numbers with fractions? Like 2 - 1 2/5? If so please don’t just give me the answer but explain so I could study it since I’m kinda behind on math rn

THAT'S HOW WE DID :

  • We're given with two different terms operated by substraction (-) sign. One is a positive integer and second is a whole number.

  • So, In order to, Solve this problem we'll first convert the whole number into an improper fraction (Improper fractions are those fractions whose numerators are greater than the denominator).

  • After converting the whole number, into an improper fraction, we can easily solve this problem. So, We've have 7 as a numerator & 5 as a denominator. Similarly, we can write 2 as a numerator and 1 as denominator..? Isn't it? Just understand any integer can be expressible in the form of fraction.

  • So, Due to all this conversions, We'll observe two different fractional values! Now, let's solve these fractions to get our final result.. Firstly, We'll make the denominators same of two different fractional values which we found. We have 1 & 5 as the denominators of 2 & 7 respectively.. So, for making denominators same, in order to sove, we'll take the L.C.M (L.C.M stands for Lowest Common Multiple, or smallest common multiple of two integers a and b, usually denoted by L.C.M & is the smallest positive integer that is divisible by both a and b).

  • So, After taking out the L.C.M of 5 & 1 we get 5 as the common denominator. Now we need to find to different values, which will stay as numerator, but numerator can't be only two it can be more, It depends on number of fractional values we're given with. Now, In order to find the first numerator we'll divide 5 by 1 & will multiply the result which we got after dividing, by the numerator! We'll get 10 as our first numerator. Then, we will operate the sign in mid.. Similarly, find the second numerator! We'll get 7.

  • At last, we came to end! Now, We've got two numerators & one denominator for two different fractional values. Which is, (10 - 7)/5. Substract 10 by 7 & We'll get our final answer! 3/5!
