Information considered general knowledge, such as George Washington was the first president of

the United States, does not need a citation. However, saying that Washington's family moved to
Little Hunting Creek Plantation (Mount Vernon) in 1735 requires a citation.

No, this is just stating a fact.

FALSE

In cases you WOULD cite:

You must cite the source every time you incorporate research, words, ideas, data, or information that is not your own. It is okay to research something and then say it in your own words, like you would be doing there. That is just part of the story. But if you were reading an article based on George Washington, and found some good information you wanted to actually use those words verbatim in your essay??--, you would have to cite where you got it from.

"George Washington was born in Virginia on February 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar." (George Washington's Birthday, 2019)

^ article name ^date the article was made.

In most cases you put the page number, like if it's from a book or a numbered article, but this one wasn't numbered.
