Two angles are supplementary if their sum is 180°. The larger angle measures three degrees more than twice the measure of a smaller

angle. If x represents the measure of the smaller angle and these two angles are supplementary, find the measure of each angle.

ANSWER:

Smaller Angle= 59°
Large Angle= 121°

Step-by-step explanation:

You can start with setting it up like this

Small angle=X
Large angle=Y

We also know the large angle is 3 more then two times the small angle, it can be shown like this

y=2x+3

We also know that supplementary angles add up to 180°. So we now have 2 equations.

y=2x+3

x+y=180

Plug the first equation into the second one. Then solve for x

x+(2x+3)=180

3x=177

x=59

Then plug x into the first equation and solve for y.

y=2(59)+3

y=121

So…

Smaller Angle= 59
Large Angle= 121
