2x - 5y = 20 → (2)

multiplying (1) by 5 and (2) by 3 and adding will eliminate y

35x + 15y = - 60 → (3)

6x - 15y = 60 → (4)

add (3) and (4) term by term to eliminate y

41x + 0 = 0

41x = 0 ⇒ x = 0

substitute x = 0 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

substituting into (2)

2(0) - 5y = 20

0 - 5y = 20

- 5y = 20 ( divide both sides by - 5 )
