Work out the value of (6.31 x 10^5) + (2.6 × 10^1)

Answer: 16,406,000

Explanation:

First, multiply 6.31 and 2.6 to get 16.406. Then, add 10^5 and 10^1 to get 10^6.

It should now look like this, 16.406 x 10^6

The number has to be between 10 and 1 so you need to make it smaller by moving the decimal point over once to the left. It should now be 1.6406. But, you can't leave the exponent at 10^6 so, you need to make it bigger since you made the number smaller.

Your answer should now look like this, 1.6406 x 10^7

Since it needs to be in standard form, move the decimal point 7 times to the right since it is a positive number.

So, your answer is: 16,406,000
