The area of each part of the figure and the whole figure include;

Figure Area (square units)

Rectangle A 54

Triangle B 3

Rectangle C 21

Whole figure 78

In Mathematics and Geometry, the area of a rectangle can be calculated by using the following mathematical equation:

A = LW

Where:

  • A represent the area of a rectangle.
  • W represent the width of a rectangle.
  • L represent the length of a rectangle.

By substituting the given side lengths into the formula for the area of a rectangle, we have the following;

Area of rectangle A = 9 × 6

Area of rectangle A = 54 square units.

Area of triangle B = 1/2 × base × height

Area of triangle B = 1/2 × (9 - 6) × (9 - 7)

Area of triangle B = 1/2 × 3 × 2

Area of triangle B = 3 square units.

Area of rectangle C = 7 × (9 - 6)

Area of rectangle A = 21 square units.

Area of whole figure = Area of rectangle A + Area of triangle B + Area of rectangle C

Area of whole figure = 54 + 3 + 21

Area of whole figure = 78 square units.
