We can multiply the top equation by -1 so it becomes -x -y = 6

-x - y = 6

x + 0.5y = 4

Now, we can use elimination to cancel out the x.

-0.5y = -2

y = 4

Because y=4, x must be 2 since x+y=6. So,

x = 2 and y = 4
