x = 8

JK = 21

Explanation:

The segment JL is composed of segments JK and KL

length(JL) = length(JK) + length(KL)

=>

2x + 5 + x + 2 = 31

=> 3x + 7 = 31

=> 3x = 31 - 7

3x = 24

x = 24/3

x = 8

and JK = 2x + 5 = 2(8) + 5 =16 + 5 = 21

KL = x + 2 = 10
