So it's quite simple actually.

When it says f(x) it means the function of x meaning you would apply the function to the number on the inside by pluging it in to the x.

Your example is f(-2) so you would plug in -2 to the x and the equation will be f(-2)=-3(-2)+4 which is 6+4 which is 10.
