I wouldn't exactly say it "doesn't work" to ask a friend or neighbor to explain documents you will need in court, as I am sure any sort of attorney that is qualified will provide basic helpful insight. However, each court situation is unique in its own way and will need to have a unique set of documents to accompany the situation. So, unless your friend/neighbor (who is an attorney) is heavily invested in the court situation, I wouldn't bank on them with providing the exact documents/ explanation of the documents.
